Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands off the West Coast of Africa. As a Spanish possession it is very much a tourist destination ... has beautiful beaches and snow in the mountains. The islands are a are about a two hour flight from Madrid. I was in the Canary Islands some 30 years ago and as one would expect ... unrecognizable!
